To quote my friend Alex:

M.I.A. is super hot and her new video is awesome

This is the first video in a while that seems to have caught anyone’s attention (much less EVERYONE’S attention). I can’t remember the last video I made a point to watch, because of positive buzz. So that’s good. And M.I.A. absolutely seems like a rock star in a multitude of ways, which is nice. Plus, super foxy.

[Apparently she flipped off the camera during the Super Bowl halftime show? I was watching the show and didn’t even notice (though the late NBC attempt to delay/censor something in the show was visible). Of course, I was a tad disoriented by the 1400 extras and strobe lights so maybe I’m in the minority. Now, every group attempting to “protect America’s sensitivities” will feel the need to discuss and display an image of this “crude gesture” for 8.5 months, casting way more attention on it and giving her a ton of free publicity. Great plan, Puritans. It is curious how no one saw any censorship issues with Madonna nonchalantly traipsing around a stage for 12 minutes, sort of lip-syncing, and cartwheeling in a skirt (her ancient undercarriage on display and repeatedly whipping past a dancer’s face was unsettling, at best). I would be more concerned with children being led to believe that that performance was more deserving of a budget that could’ve fed Africa or installed like 1000 wind turbinesin Indiana (though it was fantastic when she was seemingly frozen in carbonite at the end — who plays Boussh in the next show? Guy Ritchie?).]
